Our Team: Briana Johnson
G: Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
B: My name is Briana Johnson. I was born and raised in Painesville, Ohio, USA. I have two younger brothers: Brady is in the US Army and finished a one-year tour in Afghanistan. Austin is in high school and will be 17 years old this fall. I attended Lincoln Christian University and graduated in May 2012 with a bachelor's degree in Intercultural Studies.
G: What do you like to do in your free time?
B: I really like to sing in my free time. I can with with out without music. Singing is my favorite thing to do. I also like to crochet, read any kind of book, and study languages. I also enjoy swimming and bike-riding.
G: You came in the fall of 2011 for an internship, then stayed for the balance of the year. Now you are returning full time to Graceland. Tell us how that happened for you.
B: During my internship at Graceland, God showed me that He wants me to continue working with Graceland full-time. I only planned to be at Graceland for one semester, but I decided to stay the full year. During my second semester, I God showed me that Graceland is my place, a place where I can work to serve Him and serve others. Through much prayer, and consult with my mentors, I came to the decision to return full-time.
G: What would you say to someone considering an Internship with Graceland?
B: I would tell them that even if teaching English doesn't seem to be "your thing" right now, an internship with Graceland is still a great experience. Even if you've never been overseas or in another country before, it's still a great experience. It's because God is active at Graceland. God will teach you to rely on Him fully, to serve Him with gladness, and to obey Him in everything. It is a great opportunity to grow in your faith and learn to serve him faithfully in ministry.
G: What will your focus be now that you are a full-timer?
B: My focus now will be on making real connections with real people. The English classes are excellent, and I am going to be very involved in those. I hope that through teaching English, and working in the cafe, and attending Podroz meetings, that I will make real connections and build deep relationships with people. This year I will teach 2 kids English classes, be a discussion partner in 2 Adult classes, and manage the Espresso Yourself cafe.
G: Having spent a year teaching English, what 3 adjectives would you use to describe Graceland?
